Hasan Kamoonpuri –Dr Gary Miller in his book, “The Amazing Quran” shares the following story: A Muslim gave a copy of the Holy Quran to a man who was mariner and made his living on the sea. This sailor knew nothing about the history of Islam.
He read several verses in the Quran about ocean and storms including the following one and was amazed at the accuracy and scientific precision in it:
“The unbelievers’ state is like a vast deep ocean, overwhelmed with waves, one over the other, and above it is a cloud of darkness upon darkness, one above another; if a man stretches out his hand, he can hardly see it; For anyone to whom Allah gives no light, there is no light.” Al Quran, Surah An-Noor (24:40)Dr Gary Miller (Abdul Ahad Omar), formerly a missionary, says when the sailor finished reading the Holy Quran, he asked his Muslim friend: “This man Muhammad RasulAllah (SAW), was he a sailor? When he was told that Muhammad RasulAllah (SAW) lived in a desert and probably did not even see an ocean during his whole life, the Canadian sailor embraced Islam on the spot. He acknowledged that this description of the Holy Quran could only be described by one who had actually seen sea storms many times, whereas Muhammad RasulAllah (SAW) never witnessed this phenomenon.
The sailor was so impressed with the Quran’s description because he had been in a storm on the sea, and he knew that whoever had written that description should have been in a storm on the sea.
The description of “a wave, over it a wave, over it clouds” was not what someone imagining a storm on a sea to be like would have written; rather, it was written by someone who knew what a storm on the sea was like. This is one example of how the Quran is not tied to a certain place and time. Certainly, the scientific ideas expressed in it also do not seem to originate from the desert fourteen centuries ago.
At another place in the Glorious Quran, Allah says:
“It is He who enables you to travel on land and sea until, when you are in ships and they sail with them by a good wind and they rejoice therein, there comes a storm wind and the waves come upon them from everywhere and they assume that they are overwhelmed therein; (then) they cry unto Allah in supplication, making their faith pure for Him only: “If You should save us from this, we will surely be among the thankful.” Al Quran, Surah Yunus, Jonah (10:22)
The Holy Quran has stood the test of time, proving itself to be the word of God in all the ages. It is a Miracle of all times.
“Will they not then ponder on the Quran? Had it been from other than Allah, they would have found therein much discrepancy”. Al Quran, Surah An Nisa (4:82)
Dr Miller says about this verse: “One of the well-known scientific principles is the principle of finding mistakes or looking for mistakes in a theory until it’s proved to be right (Falsification Test). What’s amazing is that the Holy Quran asks Muslims and non-Muslims to try to find mistakes in this book and it tells them that they will never find any”.
