Prof Ibrahim Lipumba (National Chairperson) urged President Jakaya Kikwete to ensure that all electorate exercise their democratic right in choosing their next leaders in free and fair general elections.
“I call upon President Kikwete to leave us in peace by making sure the coming polls are credible,” said Prof Lipumba at Kibanda-Maiti grounds in the municipality, as the CUF Vice-Chairman, Mr Juma Duni Haji and Deputy Secretary General, Mr Nassor Ahmed Mazrui asked authorities in Zanzibar to avoid dubious practices during elections.
At the well-attended rally with people braving the scorching sun, Mr Ismail Jussa Ladu (acting Director for Publicity and Mass Communication), and Mr Mansour Yussuf Himid (special advisor to Maalim Seif) said change for Zanzibaris is within their hands.“Make sure you support Maalim Seif so that he can bring changes for you. It is a year for change,” said Mr Himid (former CCM cadre) as the elderly revolutionist Mr Hassan Nassor Moyo, recently expelled from CCM, drummed for Mr Hamad as the best leader.
Both Prof Lipumba and Mr Moyo said: “Maalim Seif has been bold in making decisions, is tolerant, honest, close to people, and hardworking. He is a kind of man required by Zanzibaris.”
Maalim Seif was received at the Zanzibar airport yesterday morning with his fans dressed in blue and red t-shirts accompanied with traditional music as his motorcade proceeded to the Kibanda-Maiti where he said his first priority would be to unite Zanzibaris and make sure Zanzibar enjoys its sovereignty.
“I will not allow any kind of discrimination; civil servants including members of the security should expect better salaries; government scholarships for all university applicants; and favourable environment for investors,” Maalim Seif said.
