ZANZIBAR President Ali Mohamed Shein opened the 2015-International Africa Music Festival in Wurzburg historical town; Germany, with a call on young artists to value the music of each other and that through music can contribute to world peace and understanding.

“Let the music play, peace, harmony, understanding and love grow. It is important for all artists to respect each other and learn from each,” Shein, who is in Germany for an official visit said.

According to the press statement sent from the Germany by the State House, Shein shared his views that music is a vehicle uniting people of all nations as witnessed at the festival, where people from different countries are gathered for the event.

“I am grateful to the German people, especially the Wurzburg Community, for preserving and continuing their passion for music.

I appreciate this because it is one way of promoting peace,” he said, adding, “Throughout the ages, music has been instrumental in promoting peace, social cohesion and human development.

I salute the people of Wurzburg for the Afroproject.” The Zanzibar president said that it is a great and good coincidence that the city of Wurzburg and Zanzibar share the love for music, as he thanked Stefan Oschman, Director of the Africa Festival for his efforts to have the Zanzibar delegation in Germany and also giving him the honour of opening the Afro- Project.Shein said that Zanzibar was fortunate that through its cultural history, it has produced world renowned singers such as late Bibi Siti bint Saad, who starred from 1920’s to 1950 and the late Bi Kidude, who performed in Germany in various occasions.

He said, “Apart from Zanzibar, the rest of the United Republic of Tanzania, with more than 120 tribes, has an abundance of musical culture, old and modern.

The famous Bongo Flavour is a Tanzanian product. Zanzibar president said that he accepted the invitation to attend the musical festival because it is an opportunity to enhance friendly relation with Germany and her people.
