Four presidential aspirants fail to beat deadline

FOUR aspirants seeking Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM)'s approval to fly its flag in the October elections failed to meet Thursday's presidential nomination forms submission deadline.

The Party's Deputy Secretary General (Mainland) Mr Rajab Luhwavi, told reporters shortly after the 16:00 deadline that 38 will go for the next stage starting next week.

He named those who failed to meet the time limit set as Anthony Chalamila, Peter Nyalile, Dr Muzammil Kalokola and Helena Elinewinga.

"The four aspirants failed to show up to return their forms as we close the counter, meaning that they are out of the race," said Luhwavi. For the first time in history, CCM recorded 42 aspirants picking up forms for the top post of the land.

Those who made it by Thursday include Deputy Minister for Communication, Science and Technology, January Makamba, Sengerema Member of Parliament William Ngeleja, Godwin Mwapongo, Ambassador Patrick Chokala, Ritha Ngowi and Sonoko Banda.

However, Luhwavi said there is no penalty for those who will fail to return the forms. Others who returned the forms are Minister for Transport, Samuel Sitta, Union Vice-President, Dr Mohammed Gharib Bilal, Makongoro Nyerere, Dr John Magufuli, Stephen Wassira, Ambassador Ali Abeid Karume, Dr Titus Kamani and Boniface Ndengo.Others are Minister for Home Affairs, Mathias Chikawe, Prof Sospeter Muhongo, Ambassador Amina Salum Ally, retired Chief Justice Augustino Ramadhani, Leonce Mulenda and Prof Mark Mwandosya, the Minister in the President's Office (Special Duties).

The list also has Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda, Minister for East Africa, Dr Harrison Mwakyembe, retired Prime Minister, Frederick Sumaye and Ex-premier Edward Lowassa.

Others are Dr Asha-Rose Migiro, Monica Mbega, Dr Mwele Malecela, the Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Lazaro Nyalandu, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Bernard Membe, Deputy Minister for Finance Mwigulu Nchemba.



Also in the list is Nzega MP Dr Hamis Kigwangala, Dr Hans Kitine, Ambassador Augustino Mahiga, a farmer from Mjimtala Village in Kasulu District, Kigoma Region Wil Eldefonce Bilohe, Kisesa Member of Parliament Luhaga Mpina, Amos Siyantemi, Mzumbe University student Amos Robert and Maliki Malupu.
