That has been me for a while now. I pray and I’ve been praying that the ghost of Nyerere shows himself to all these politicians, especially the ones who are knowingly going against everything Tanzania was founded of and not caring a single bit.
I’ve said this before- all that needs to happen is that a rather angry and slightly younger version of Nyerere needs to appear to these politicians while they sleep at night and give them a through beat down- as only he could as he was a teacher with vast experience with enforcing discipline.
After spending much of their time fighting and arguing like street mongers pinched of a TSHS 500/- off of a deal, the parliamentarians are now rushing to do the job that we had voted them to do a few days before they are dismissed.
They are rushing to push through three bills; the Petroleum Bill, the Oil and Gas Revenue Management Bill and the Tanzania Extractive Industry (Transparency and Accountability) Bill.
These bills seem nice and I’m sure a Tanzanian or two will benefit heavily from it, but why the rush? I’m sure I’m not the only one who hasn’t finished reading up on the bills, yet they are about to be made into laws. Why the rush? All MPs who have raised questions about the bills have been taken to the parliamentary Powers, Ethics and Privileges Committee for allegedly causing chaos in Parliament.
Other MPs have been barred from entering the assembly for the same reasons. So after pointlessly arguing in the national assembly for what felt like 5 years, the MPs are how rushing to pass bills into law that haven’t been properly discussed. Furthermore, the MPs who want to discuss it are being barred from entering the assembly.
The ghost of Nyerere would have a field day with this situation- a through beat down like the ones students get at Monday morning assembly.
Mine is to continue praying for this miracle or any other type of Devine intervention as it seems only God can stop this madness.
