Magufuli defends CCM on change

UNION presidential candidate on CCM ticket, Dr John Magufuli, has played down the argument that changes could not be attained through his party, challenging his critics to borrow a leaf from China that has recorded mind-blowing economic strength without changing the ruling Communist Party.

Addressing public rallies in the ongoing election campaigns in various villages, Dr Magufuli requested all voters to vote for him to bring positive socio-economic and technological changes for the benefit of the nation.

“For many years, China remained under the Communist Party under its founding leader, Chairman Mao Zedong, seriously rooted in the principles of socialism just like Tanzania.

Much has been achieved in terms of development as the people refused to dethrone the party for the sake of change. With CCM, changes are guaranteed in Tanzania.

Vote for me and CCM candidates and I will spearhead the anticipated changes,” Dr Magufuli pledged. He pointed out that leadership could not be taken on trial terms, adding that he had maintained a low profile at the time he decided to pick the presidential nomination forms but inwardly determined to lead Tanzanians out of poverty.

“There might be people who would come to you dishing out money and seeking favour from you. This is the right time to make the right decision. Vote for CCM for a peaceful transition,” he emphasized. With regard to entrepreneurial engagements, Dr Magufuli pledged economic empowerment support to the youth, women and other social groups to start up productive activities for sustainable development, adding that it was possible for the government to offer free education from primary to Ordinary Level for all Tanzanian children.

However, through intuition, he perceived that voters might question the source of money he would use to support education to all children. He, therefore, promised to identify and seal off all loopholes that siphoned money through corruption in addition to strengthening the economic base through development of industrial agriculture and other related activities.

“I want to provide leadership to a country that does not entertain poverty or subjugation of a certain social group.

I know what poverty is all about because I lived in it. Those inclined to abuse office such as denying others the right to have access to medical supplies.

It is totally unacceptable for all private pharmacy outlets to be staffed with the needed medicine while public hospitals go without,” he observed.

Winding up his speech Magufuli said he would apply his 20-year experience in public service to address challenges facing different sectors such as water, health and transport among others, which would equally be given priority under his leadership. He added that remunerations for all workers would be given serious consideration as well.

Meanwhile, Longido residents have been assured that former Prime Minister Edward Lowassa’s move to CHADEMA will not make any difference in the constituency.

Addressing hundreds of people who turned up at Namanga town during a public rally, former Longido MP Michael Lekule Laizer said Mr Lowassa has not done anything good for the constituency.

“Anyone who thinks that Mr Lowassa has done anything for Longido, come out and tell us,” Mr Laizer said, adding that he suffered discrimination for the whole period the former prime minister was in power.

He added that at one time when he (Laizer) wanted Longido to separate from Monduli to be a district, he was told that Longido will never be a district.

“And when Longido eventually became a district we were given all the broken down vehicles, forcing me to go the State House and was given 7 new vehicles,” he explained.

He added that when the government allocated 20 water projects for both Monduli and Longido, his constituency was allocated only five, the rest going to Monduli.

“We have suffered a lot under Monduli but this broadened our minds to use our efforts to get development. We have no reason to follow Mr Lowassa at all,” he noted.

Mr Laizer wondered why some people complained during the CCM presidential nomination process when Mr Lowassa’s name was struck off, while other government bigwigs such as Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda and Vice-President Gharib Bilal did not complain or abandon the ruling party.

“Dr Slaa was replaced by Mr Lowassa without any type of internal election, was this fair?” queried Mr Laizer.

He added that he has retired from running for a parliamentary slot but stressed that he will move around his constituency to campaign for Dr John Magufuli, parliamentary candidate Dr Steven Limomo Kiluswa, who is his replacement, and ward councillors to ensure CCM returns back to power.

Mr Laizer told the incoming CCM parliamentary candidate that he should work hard to address the remaining challenges facing Longido residents, including water and the remaining 4,000 cattle from government following long droughts that devastated Longido residents.

He said the government has already issued 7,000 cattle to the residents. On her part, the CCM Union presidential running mate, Ms Samia Suluhu Hassan, said 13bn/- will be spent on water project that will bring water from Siha to Longido and Namanga.

“I have been told that water is one of the main challenges facing people in this area. Once we are back in office this will be implemented immediately,” she explained.

She added that her government once voted back in office they will also embark on implementing proper town plans. Earlier on her way to Longido, Ms Samia stopped at Ngaramtoni area in Arumeru West Constituency to greet CCM members and supporters.

Addressing a cross-section of the public, most of whom turned up to see the first female CCM presidential running mate, she urged them to vote for CCM to enable it implement development projects and meet challenges facing the public.
