CHAMA Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) will definitely win the upcoming polls in a free, fair and transparent manner, President Ali Mohamed Shein declared here yesterday.
He said during a campaign rally at Mkokotoni village in North Unguja Region that claims by the opposition Civic United Front (CUF) that CCM will rig the elections are baseless and unfounded.
CUF leaders, including its presidential aspirant, Seif Sharif Hamad, say that CCM plans to rig the polls and that it “must surrender power willingly or unwillingly.” Dr Shein said such statements were seditious and amounted to breach of peace.
He said the elections would be held as planned based on the country’s constitution and electoral laws and that the decision made by the majority Zanzibaris would be final. “CUF and the opposition are looking for excuses.
This is not good for our country because they want to plunge the country into chaos. The government will remain vigilant,” Dr Shein declared.
He reiterated his pledge to increase the basic salary for civil servants from the current 150,000/- to 300,000/- within the first year of his second term, if re-elected on October 25.
“During my second term, I’ll also continue developing health services, education and roads. The plans also include developing Mkokotoni sea port,” said Dr Shein as he asked voters in the areas to ensure they elect CCM.
