Soldiers for military science degree course

THE Institute of Accountancy Arusha and the Tanzania Military Academy of Monduli have been praised for hatching mutual training programmes that will benefit military officers in the country.

The Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA) has just inked a Memorandum of Understanding with Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) through which military personnel attending training at the Tanzania Military Academy (TMA) in Monduli are to be provided with a three-year Bachelors Degree Programme in Military Science and a two-year Postgraduate Diploma in Military Science by the Arusha-based national institute of monetary studies.

“Through this MoU the Institute of Accountancy has positioned itself as a more competitive, high quality institution among other universities with a long history,” pointed out the Rector for IAA, Professor Johannes Monyo. He explained that the Bachelors Degree curriculum comprising of National Technical Awards (NTA) levels 7 and 8 have been submitted to the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) for validation and awaiting the validation of the MoU to take off.

Prof Monyo added that for ten years now, the institute has been working hand in hand with the TPDF through Command and Staff College in offering special programmes in Strategic Studies in the levels of Ordinary Diploma and Postgraduate diploma for countries within the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

On his part, the NACTE Executive Secretary, Dr Primus Nkwera, said the curriculum was being worked upon since 2013 and it faced a number of hectic moments, travelling to all commands and brigades and meeting different stakeholders including the society at different levels.

“I would like to extend gratitude to the TPDF as well as the heads of TMA and IAA institutions, specifically the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Paul Peter Massao, Rector Prof Monyo for making this unique and auspicious occasion possible by initially accepting the collaboration,” stated Dr Nkwera.

The Head of Tanzania Military Academy, PP Massao explained that, both programmes are aimed at equipping Military Personnel with necessary skills and knowledge in Military Science that are needed at their workplace and elsewhere in the world.
