THE Minister in the President’s Office, Good Governance and Public Service Management, Ms Angela Kairuki, has ordered Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) officials to declare their assets with immediate effect.
In the same manner, the minister wanted workers at the anti-graft body to start keeping their image in good order, insisting that the current operation of kicking out crooked officials will leave no stone unturned.
Ms Kairuki made the remarks yesterday when officiating at the opening of the annual PCCB meeting in Dar es Salaam. She further noted that given the current probity and accountability drive, the bureau should not only key in, but should be one of the key drivers for such a laudable mission.
The minister noted that she has detailed information implicating some officials at the bureau with some unlawful acts.
She directed the body to asses all cases that it has lost and come up with clear-cut explanation as to why the state was overpowered in such cases.
“Necessary legal actions should be instituted against any official who failed to properly handle corruption cases; there is information that some officials do not perform their duties ethically,” she insisted.
The minister noted that the office should be an example by embracing professionalism, integrity and patriotism. She noted that just like other few public offices, there was massive rot in various departments at PCCB, including the procurement department, regional offices and its Upanga-based headquarters.
“We will clear all rots; no stone will be left unturned. We are ready even to fire all and start afresh if it is proved that you are acting incompetently,” she remarked.
She noted that as from now, her ministry is going to set target for the office and later evaluate how far they have performed. The minister further noted that it was high time all PCCB workers took oath of office and signed integrity intent forms.
