WELCOME TO THE BEAUTIFUL ISLANDS OF ZANZIBAR FOR THE 2016 DIASPORA CONFERENCE!

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation and Zanzibar President’s Office and Chairman of Revolutionary Council will host the Third Annual Diaspora Homecoming Conference to be at Zanzibar Beach Resort in Zanzibar from 24th to 25th August, 2016.

President of Zanzibar and Chairman of Revolutionary Council H.E Dr. Ali Mohamed Shein is expected to officiate the opening session of the conference and H.E Dr. John Pombe Joseph Magufuli, President of the United Republic of Tanzania will officiate the closing session.

The Conference is expected to attract about 450 participants, among them, Tanzanians living abroad and returnees and stakeholders from public and private sector as well as members of the society who have made big contribution towards mobilization of members of Diaspora in national building.

This year’s Conference theme is Bridging Tanzania Tourism and Investment: A New Outlook and the aim of the Conference, as the theme indicates, is to engage and encourage Tanzanian diaspora to participate in tourism business as a means to promote investment in the country.

Like in the previous conferences, participants will be involved in interactive discussions to explore ways and means to improve business and investment environment which will attract more and more diaspora to come and invest in the country.

For the past three years, from 2014, the two governments in collaboration with Tanzanian diaspora organisations have been holding such conferences which have proved to be the right platform of interactions between our governments and diaspora as well as other diaspora stakeholders. This will be the first Annual Diaspora Conference to be held in Zanzibar.

Both two previous conferences were held in Dar es Salaam. The theme of the first conference was Connect, Engage, Inform and Invest whereas the second conference theme was Creating Linkages between Diaspora and Local SMEs in Tanzania.

As result of these conferences, there is visible involvement of diaspora in investment and improving social services in the country.
