The heartbroken bride-to-be shared her ordeal through a Facebook post and apologised for cancelling her wedding at short notice. Susan admitted that she and her partner have broken up due to 'recent and irreparable' problems. The two had their first child when Susan was 20 and they managed to save $15,000 for their wedding. However, for the 'blow out' wedding party they needed $60,000 in total and so they turned to friends and family for help. But when the couple clarified that if the guests couldn't contribute they weren't invited, only eight people replied, according to Mirror.uk.
Susan wrote in her Facebook post: "I SPECIFICALLY, I mean SPECIFICALLY, asked for cash gifts. How could we have OUR wedding that WE dreamed of without proper funding? We'd sacrificed so much and only asked each guest for around $1500. We talked to a few people who even promised us more to make our dream come true."
Susan further wrote: "My maid of honour pledged $5000 along with her planning services. We tearfully thanked and accepted. My ex's family offered to contribute $3000." Susan added, "How was this supposed to happen for a little help from our friends. To make matters worse my ex's family took back their offer. Suddenly more people backed out, including my childhood friend. I was so shocked."
In a desperate last attempt the couple sent out invites to the wedding a second time and set up a go fund me page but only managed to gather another $250.
Moreover, she was outraged as she noticed her groom-to-be offered to have a cheap wedding instead and said, "I just wanted to be a Kardashian for a day and then live my life like normal." She revealed that soon her partner started gossiping about her with her friends and started staying out late for which she thinks he may even have cheated on her.
Ultimately she decided that to get away from it all was best for her. Hence she called off her wedding and decided to go backpacking across South America for the next two months to get rid of the 'toxic energy'.
Susan ended her post by announcing that she has cut all ties with her friends and wrote: 'I need to get away from this awful society. Friendly reminder, don't think you own me. I am cutting all of you snakes off. I am living my life alone now'.
The bizarre story of Susan was shared by someone on MumsNet where online users are aligned with her decision. One mum wrote: 'That's just so over the top, it's positively jaw dropping'.
