- The lion was likely kept as a pet and escaped from an owner.
Authorities shared a video and photos of the lion which was captured after being tranquilized and handed over to a zoo on Wednesday.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Kuwait Livestock Authority said that the lion was found in a residential area of Kabad District on Wednesday. After the news of the big cat roaming free surfaced, personnel from Public Security, Environment Police and Al-Najdah Police rushed to prevent any untoward incident.
Deputy Director General of Kuwait Livestock Authority, Ali Al-Gattan, said the lion was likely kept as a pet and escaped from an owner. Authorities are now trying to trace who could face up to three years in jail and a fine, as keeping and raising wild animals as pets is illegal in the country.
Meanwhile, the video has left social media users in disbelief. One social media user wrote: 'Where did he come from?!' while another user wrote: 'Scary'. Last year, a man in Pakistan was filmed taking a lion out for a drive in his car, citing that it was sick and he was taking the lion to a doctor, according to NDTV report.
