The surveillance footage of the incident show a boy riding the hoverboard in the living room when suddenly smoke starts to emit from it. The boy notices the smoke and immediately jumps off the device moments before it bursts into flames.
The video shows his sister sitting on a chair right next to where the brother is riding his hoverboard. She is seen jumping out the chair after the explosion while her brother escapes into an adjacent room.
Fortunately, both siblings were safe after the explosion that took place on August 16, Daily Mail reports. The explosion was reportedly caused by a damaged lithium battery in the rechargeable device.
In a similar incident, an electric scooter exploded in a house in Beijing earlier this month. A man, his daughter and their pet dog narrowly escaped. The Chinese authorities have previously warned the public against purchasing substandard electric devices from unauthorised manufacturers.
