There is something almost comical about what apologists for fascistic intolerance will do to defend the indefensible or to impeach the unimpeachable.

The kind of intolerance I am talking about is that which seeks to make us believe that we live in the best of all possible worlds, and that whoever happens to hold a contrary opinion must be either an enemy agent or a raving loony whose mind has taken leave of him or her.

So we keep hearing about what has been achieved “in record time,” even when the real achievements on the ground are, well, scant and could have been realised at a much lower cost. Some of those vaunted successes are nothing short of white elephants still in their infancy but whose eventual cost to our economy is likely to prove staggering.

WASHINGTON — China tested the world's most powerful naval gun earlier this month, and it is expected to be ready for warfare by 2025, according to people with direct knowledge of a U.S. intelligence report.

China's railgun was first seen in 2011 and underwent testing in 2014, according to the people, who spoke to CNBC on the condition of anonymity.

Between 2015 and 2017, the weapon was calibrated to strike at extended ranges, increasing its lethality. By December 2017, the weapon was successfully mounted on a warship and began at-sea testing, a feat no other nation has accomplished. The Chinese are expected to complete at-sea testing by 2023.

Denmark raises fence on German border to prevent swine fever!

Copenhagen: Denmark on Monday began construction of a 70-kilometre fence on the border with Germany as part of efforts to combat the spread of African swine fever through wild boar.
The 1.5-metre high fence, which will run along the entire border between the two countries, is due to be completed by the end of the year.
Work on the initial sections of the fence, which was also to extend 0.5 metres underground, began near the town of Padborg, close to the German border town of Flensburg.
At the construction site, Mogens Dall – head of Danish farmers’ association Landbo Syd – stands on the muddy ground and looks contentedly at the work. “The fence is long awaited,” he said.

Apple spent $60 billion last year with 9,000 American component suppliers and companies, an increase of more than 10 per cent from the year before -- supporting more than 450,000 jobs.

"Since 2011, the total number of jobs created and supported by Apple in the US has more than tripled -- from almost 600,000 to 2 million across all 50 states," the company said in a statement as it readied to announce the results of its first quarter of fiscal 2019 on Tuesday.

Over 2.5 million people have been caught for flouting residency, labour and border regulations in year-long campaign in Saudi Arabia.

According to an official report, the campaign to crack down on violators began in November 2017 and has since led to arrest of 2,504,037 offenders in a year. From the total number of violators arrested, 1,949,024 were held for violating residency regulations, while 383,033 people were held for flouting labour regulations.

A Canadian landscaper on Tuesday pleaded guilty to the premeditated murders of eight men with links to Toronto's gay community and the mutilation of their bodies, most of them chopped up and hidden inside planters.

The plea entered by Bruce McArthur, 67, was a surprise - he had been scheduled to stand trial next year.

Four police shot in Houston, two suspects dead!

• The officers were shot when they tried to enter a home in Houston to serve a warrant.

Four Houston police officers were shot on Monday as they attempted to serve a warrant in a narcotics investigation and two suspects were shot dead, the city's police chief said.

Two of the officers were shot in the neck and were undergoing surgery, Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo told reporters, adding that they were in critical but stable condition. The other two officers shot will remain hospitalized for at least another 24 hours, but are ambulatory, he said.

The officers were shot when they tried to enter a home in southeast Houston to serve a warrant shortly before 5pm, Acevedo said.

Girl dangles from third floor balcony in scary video!

• The little girl can be seen dangling from her neck.

A little girl in China had a miraculous escape after she fell from her third-floor balcony and got trapped between the railings outside the building. In a hair-raising video that went viral, the hapless girl is seen hanging outside the building, dangling by her neck. 

Fortunately, two men from the several onlookers on the road below the building, climbed up to save the child. The video shows the men climbing up with the help of a ladder and manage to rescue the girl on time.

WhatsApp rolls out new feature on its web version!

After iOS and Android, Facebook-owned messaging app WhatsApp is now rolling out "Picture in Picture (PiP) mode" for web users that will allow them to view videos within a chat window, without opening third party pages or apps.

The feature comes as part of the 0.3.2041 update along with new improvements and security fixes, WABetaInfo, a fan website that tracks WhatsApp, reported on Sunday.

In the previous web version, the messaging app released the PiP feature to watch shared videos.
