Names MP Zungu among those held
Three of his supporters were also allegedly taken by PCCB for questioning. Zungu is vying for a seat in the the CCM National Executive Committee (NEC) through the parent’s wing.
Mbeya Regional chairperson of CCM Parent wing, Fatma Kasenga, was also taken for questioning over allegations of buying meals and drinks for some of the delegates.
Speaking to journalist yesterday Eunice Mmari, Dodoma PCCB Commander, said that Zungu who is also the Vice-Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Defense, Security and Foreign Affairs was held for questioning on Tuesday after being found at Golden Crown Hotel between 8:30 and 9:00 pm, allegedly with money inside a vehicle.
“It is believed that the money which was in there, vanished immediately and so we could not establish how much was kept in the car. However, we managed to obtain some credible information in Zungu’s phone,” she said.
Mmari, named the other three suspects who were arrested and later released on bail as Yahaya Danga, Busolo Pazi and Frac Mang’ati.
Zungu is defending his position as NEC member through CCM Parents Wing after completing his five-year term.
On Kasenga, Mmari explained that she was arrested at 9:00 pm at Kitoli Guest House when she was paying the bills for members of the Wazazi general meeting.
“It is believed that she was bribing the fellows to vote for one of the contestants in today’s (yesterday) election,” she said.
Others who were also arrested include Dr Damas Mukasa, who is vying for a seat on the National Council for of the wing.
Mukasa, who is accused for bribing his fellows in order to vote for him, was arrested at Kilimani Hall.
The Guardian tried to reach Zungu so as to confirm the accusation but in vain as he was supervising the election process in the inner chamber.
