MUSCAT — The company in charge of the implementation of a project to transform Al Mahaj roundabout into a crossroads began its task yesterday. The project, supervised by Muscat Municipality, envisages the construction of flyovers and the expansion of the junction in three tracks on either side of the road. The road leading from Al Amerat roundabout to Al Mahaj roundabout will be renovated and made into a three-track way on and off.
The construction of culverts will be a boon to the users of the road, which used to be submerged by wadi flooding during rains. The new road, now to be functional in all conditions, will be connected to the existing Al Amerat-Baushar road via Al Jood road which serves various parts of the wilayat.
The electrical power supply will also be transformed en tandem with the expansions. The construction of culverts will be a boon to the users of the road, which used to be submerged by wadi flooding during rains. The new road, now to be functional in all conditions, will be connected to the existing Al Amerat-Baushar road via Al Jood road which serves various parts of the wilayat.
/> The whole area, including the new junction, will be a meeting point of roads linking the wilayats of Governorate of Muscat with the wilayats of the Sharqiyah Governorates. The new configuration is designed to cut short the distance between the wilayats of Bausher, Muttrah, Qurayat and beyond to the Sharqiyah.
Muscat Municipality is attaching top priority to the road network in Muscat governorate.
The current project is actually a streamlining of traffic flow from two main roads, the Wadi Adei-Amerat road and the Baushar-Amerat road where traffic congestion peaks in the morning period when employees of government and private sector are heading to their offices.
Traffic jams sometimes grow into a 2-kilometre queue, much to the frustration of everyone.
