Reading Mchechu’s biography during a function held in Dar es Salaam early this week, Method Kashonda, one of the Rotary club leaders described Mchechu as ‘a classic example of exemplary service and valuable contribution to one’s community.
“Among other things, Rotary club works to promote vocational service and recognise individuals who have demonstrated outstanding performance in their business or career. Mchechu is an inspirational and transformational business leader, he is currently leading the largest company in East Africa with a capital base of over USD 1.4bn,” Kashonda said.
Kashonda went on to expound on Mchechu’s achievement saying he was recruited to undertake the restructuring of the state owned corporation (NHC) following his good track record in restructuring other ailing companies.
“He has managed to transform NHC from a bureaucratic state owned corporation to one of the best investment companies in the country,” he attested.
On his part, Mchechu thanked the Mzizima Rotary Club for the award, humbly saying it is not only for him but the entire NHC team who worked hand in hand with him to realise the transformation of the corporation.
“I take this award as a challenge to me and my colleagues to work even harder and do even better,” he pledged.
Detailing on the current standing of NHC, Mchechu said the corporation is facing several challenges including high cost of land and also very high Value Added Tax (VAT) in construction material forcing them to raise the selling price of the houses.
