are expats — MUSCAT — The National Centre for Statistics and
Information (NCSI) issued the 5th report (Sultanate’s Population) that presents
various population indicators for the Sultanate’s population according to the
official statistics and censuses. The report indicated that the Sultanate’s
population is 3. 876 million in 2013, and the largest number of people are
centered in the Governorate of Muscat (30 per cent) and lowest in Al Wusta and
Musandam (1 per cent for each). The report pointed out that the Sultanate’s
population increased by 6 persons every ten minutes in 2012.
The crude birth
rate stood at 20.6 per 1000 population against 2.3 death cases per 1000
population. The rate of population growth in the Sultanate stood at 4.98 per
cent annually in the period (2003 2013) while it increased for expatriates by
11 per cent. The rate of expatriates stood at 44 per cent of the total
population compared to 24 per cent in 2003. The percentage of Omani males to
females reached approximately 50.7 per cent and 49.3 per cent respectively. As
for the expatriate males, they stood at fivefold to females as the rate of
males to the females of the total population in the Sultanate hit 65 per cent.
The Omanis below 30 years old constituted 67 per cent of the total Omanis while
the age category from 20 – 59 for the expatriates represented 91 per cent. Most
of the expatriates in the Sultanate are working and they constitute 87.2 per
cent. Total dependency ratio stood at 7.3 persons for 100 population in the
