A new project is initiated in Zanzibar for the youth to participate in important policies and decision-making processes.

Zanzibar has launched a platform for youth so as to promote better understanding and dialogue between youth and government on various issues.
"We need peace and stability for development," leaders including the Minister for Trade, Industries and Marketing Mr Nassor Ahmed Mazrui and Urban-West Regional Commissioner, Mr Abdallah Mwinyi Khamis emphasised at the launch.
The platform was officially launched yesterday [23 November 2013] in Zanzibar and will focus on encouraging dialogue and ensuring that young people's views are heard and included in important policies and decision-making processes.
"I salute those who came up with the idea. It is very important that young people can meet police, government officials and activists to share views and resolve conflicts," said an invited guest.
The youths will be able to dialogue at the Tanzania Youth Icon (TAYI) centre in Kikwajuni constituency and the Stone Town Development Organisation (STDO) centres in Mji Mkongwe constituency.
Legislators, Mr Hamad Yussuf Masauni (Kikwajuni) and Mr Ismail Jussa Ladu (Mji Mkongwe) initiated the establishment of the centres.
International Law and Policy Institute (ILPI) in collaboration with the US embassy, support the 10-month project. Both the ILPI representative Mr Sterling Roop and the US embassy representative in Zanzibar Mr Jeff Smith said the dialogue was a great opportunity for youth.
Other invited guests included Police Officers, lawyers, students, artists and members of community-police groups from Mji Mkongwe and Kikwajuni. The Commissioner of Police- Zanzibar Mr Mussa Ali Mussa said the dialogue will strengthen Community-policing and further cement good relations with law enforcers.
