First Hamdan bin Mohammed Smart Government Award distributed at a function attended by Dubai Crown Prince.
The Dubai Municipality bagged four awards at the first Hamdan bin Mohammed Smart Government Award during a ceremony held in Dubai World Trade Centre.
Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, was present during the ceremony.
Marwan Al Mohammed, acting Director of Building Department at Dubai Municipality and head of the team that won the award for the best government joint service for building licensing initiative, said that it was great to win four awards in the first edition and they were extremely proud of it.
“We were surprised when it was announced, even though it was not unexpected, as we were ranked as fifth place holder globally in the easy procedures of building licence according to a study by the World Bank. Before, we were in 13th position with 61 per cent of advancement in technology. Though our aim was to reach this position in 2017, our team achieved it before time, which is considered an outstanding achievement,” he said.
“The service contributed to simplifying procedures for consultants and contractors and reduced the burden of visits to related offices, as well as being able to complete transactions through a unified ‘electronic window’ of the building department,” he explained.
He noted that since its formation, the committee has developed a strategy and detailed plan of action to carry out improvements and a reduction of the steps required for a licence, under the provision of quality service to customers and raising the international competitiveness of the Emirate of Dubai.
Khalid Sharif Al Awadhi, Director of Food Control Department at Dubai Municipality who won the award for service improvement, said that the municipality had improved one of the most complicated and difficult services related to food examining when it arrives from other countries and reduced the time of actual examination from 12 working days to 9 working days, “which is not at all easy especially when dealing with 10 million tonnes of food imported to Dubai annually.”
Anas Abdul Rahem Khalifa, Consumables Inspector Officer, Consumer Products Safety Section of Public Health and Safety Department, and Zubeir Ahmed Sheikh Faras, Senior Food Trade Hygiene Officer from Food Control Department, won the award for the Best Service Star.
