The new frontier in the battle for digital supremacy is the automobile.
Google has joined forces with Audi to develop in-car entertainment and information systems based on Android software.
Sources told The Wall Street Journal the technology giant and the German car-maker plan to officially announce the collaboration next week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The technology will give people in the car access to music, navigation and other apps and services available on Android smartphones.
The move shows Google is setting itself up to challenge Apple. In July, Apple announced it will use the iPhones iOS operating system with car makers’ dashboard control panels. The company already has Daimler, General Motors and Honda Motor Co onboard.
