Tanzania: Zanzibar, Comoro Enhance Ties

Zanzibar — THE governments of Zanzibar and Comoro are committed to improving bilateral relationships, especially in the area of education for the benefit of citizens of the both countries.
The two countries will also work together in agriculture, tourism, culture, industry and trade. The ties were made by Zanzibar President Dr Ali Mohamed Shein and the President of the Union of Comoros Dr Ikililow Dhoinine at the Zanzibar State House.
The Comoros President arrived in Zanzibar recently to attend celebrations to mark 50 years of the Zanzibar Revolution. President Dhoinine expressed gratitude for the invitation to attend the celebrations, noting that he was happy to be among the invited guests.
He said that Comoro and Zanzibar have every opportunity to learn from each other, noting that apart from similar history, both countries have other things that are similar.
Dr Dhoinine said that both countries need to strengthen relations in religious studies. He concurred with Dr Shein on the need for starting a Higher Education relationship, especially between universities in the two countries.
On his part, Dr Shein added that the two countries can also cooperate in the Agriculture sector, adding that a lot of the crops grown in Zanzibar also thrive in Comoros. Other cooperation areas, Dr Shein said, include tourism, fisheries, trade, culture and education.
He said on Education, citizens of both countries can learn in Zanzibar and Comoro universities. Dr Shein explained that his government is in the process of purchasing a new and modern boat that will be plying between the two countries to improve transportation of passengers and cargo.
He assured the Comoros president that Tanzania is working to improve cooperation with Comoro, citing the opening of a Tanzanian Embassy office as one of the efforts to enhance bilateral relations.
