High-level Tanzanian trade team visits State General Reserve Fund

MUSCAT — As part of developing investments and enhancing economic relations between The Sultanate and the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Mary Michael Nagu, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister responsible for investments in Tanzania, and as an envoy by the Tanzanian President, along with the delegation accompanying her, visited State General Reserve Fund (SGRF) where she was received by Abdulslam al Murshidi, SGRF’s Executive President, and some senior officials of the Fund.

During the visit talks were held focusing on various projects and investment opportunities between the two countries especially in Tanzania’s ports and logistics sectors.

In the light of the richness of the African continent in natural resources and in particular the strategic location of Tanzania on the Indian Ocean, which is vitally important gateway for supplying East Asia with raw materials. The delegation had also viewed the project of Special Economic Zone of Duqum (SEZAD), featuring investment opportunities to create projects in different areas, as per the current division of the promising Economic Zone.

“SGRF features a strong network and an extended strategic worldwide business relations, which enables it to play a catalyst role in creating business in the country by twinning them with projects carried out by the fund around the world, which will be attracting for the investment to the Sultanate”, Abdulsalam al Murshidi, Executive President, SGRF said.

The meeting also included accessing the Sultanate’s experiences in building free economic zones and in ports management, as the Tanzanian delegation learnt about the package of facilities that Duqum provides for the investors, and about the strategic factors that attract foreign investment, as the delegation made a visit to the office of the free zone in Salalah and the Industrial Port of Sohar.

The meeting was attended, among the Tanzanian Delegation, by Ambassador Hassan Simba Yahi, director of the Middle East Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation along with a group of senior officials from Tanzania. The agenda of the delegation, whose visit will continue for several days, includes visits to the free economic zones in Salalah Free Zone office and Sohar seeking investment opportunities in the country.
