Dar es Salaam. Finally, the State House got it right and their official website is now displaying the full list of ministers and appropriate matching photos and names.
The list of the Cabinet line-up was distorted and missing important details until a few days ago when The Citizen reported on the anomaly.
The omissions were so massive that even the photo of Zanzibar President, Dr Ali Mohammed Shein, was missing plus the names of newly appointed ministers.
The old site displayed even the names of former ministers as current office bearers, one month after President Jakaya Kikwete named a new cabinet. The names of several other ministers were mispelt. But since Monday, the Ikulu site has been updated and the missing photo of Dr Shein is now displayed as required. Corrections were made on the erstwhile mispelt names and the missing new ministers are now on board.
Our efforts yesterday to establish from the State House why stale information had been on display despite obvious changes announced from the Magogoni address were futile.
But Parliament which was also exposed over an outdated Cabinet line-up remains unresponsive. From Monday this week, the Cabinet section on Parliament’s website hasn’t been accessible, presumably blocked for the update.
The Citizen, however, could not independently verify if the blockage was for maintenance, and Bunge officials weren’t available for comment. This paper highlighted the anomalies in the two sites to show how, despite the fast adoption of the new technology, some sensitive public dockets were caught napping on critical information shared by millions of Internet users around the world.
There has been a big push by government to go digital on most of its operations.
