Team Lowassa for Ukawa

Edward Lowassa
A group of more than 250 youngsters claiming to be supporters of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Monduli Member of Parliament (MP) Edward Lowasa have officially announced to support the Coalition of Defenders of People’s Constitution (Ukawa) in the upcoming October general election.
The support of the four coalition opposition parties that includes, Chama Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (Chadema), the Civic United Front (CUF), National League for Democracy (NLD) and NCCR Mageuzi by the group of CCM youth follows what they termed as purposeful axing of Monduli MP by the party Ethics and Security Committee in Dodoma in his bid to be the flag bearer in the upcoming election.
Speaking to reporters in Dar es Salaam, the three groups dubbed, 4u Lowassa, team Lowassa 4President and Youth movement for Edward Lowassa said they have collectively agreed to support Ukawa because they are not contented with the just concluded CCM presidential selection process.
Hemedi Ally, the former National Coordinator of Team Lowassa and 4u movement leader said their support for Monduli MP was aimed at experiencing new changes in the party and believed that he was the right person to bring such changes into reality.
“We were supporting a person not a party, so, we have decided to shift to Ukawa where we can witness the changes we need” he said.
He added, “A number of Lowassa supporters will remain with CCM but vote for Ukawa because the party has disappointed them”.
According to the former Lowassa coordinator, it is time Lowassa supporters looked for the change outside CCM after the presidential selection process disappointment saying Ukawa was the right place to bring the changes they need.
“Ukawa is now our plan B after CCM failed to listen to the people’s voice of selecting a candidate with the support of majority public both inside and outside the party”
We do not have any conflicts with Dr. John Magufuli, the CCM flag bearer but we are not comfortable with the just concluded presidential nomination process, he stressed.
According to him, millions of people from CCM especially Lowassa supporters will vote for the coalition with 5 million of them being 4U movement supporters, 3.5 million from team Lowassa and 2.5million from Youth movement for Edward Lowassa.
“We are tired of CCM bias, we have now started this process to ensure that the party is removed from power” he said.
More than 250 former supporters met in Dar es Salaam yesterday to start their movement of supporting Ukawa and removing CCM from the power.
On Sunday last week, CCM National Congress announced Dr John Magufuli as its presidential flag bearer for October 25 general election.
The immediate Minister of Works who was among the top three candidate including Ambassador Amina Ali Salum and Dr Asha-Rose Migiro garnered 2,104 equivalent to 87.1 per cent with the other two getting 253 and 59 votes respectively out of 2, 422 votes.
