Mohamed is the outgoing Wawi lawmaker and a former member of the Civic United Front (CUF).
The candidates were nominated yesterday at the party’s general meeting held in Dar es Salaam and involving members from Zanzibar and the mainland.
The national party chairman, Said Raaj, said Hamad Rashid who had no other aspirant in Zanzibar, was elected by 56 members who were attending the conference and named him to become the party's sole candidate in Zanzibar.
The general meeting also nominated running mate Said Miraji.
On July this year, the former Wawi Member of Parliament had officially joined the Alliance for Democratic Change (ADC) party and announced his candidacy for the Zanzibar presidency.
Rashid who had fell out from the Civic United Front (CUF) the major opposition in Zanzibar said ADC was the only political party in the country that strongly believed in policies and not mere words.
After collecting the party’s card and constitution on Thursday, Rashid criticised political leaders for staying too long at their party’s helms.
“You may find one person in the same position for many years, is he better that others should take over power instead of just being selfish ” he told his new party supporters.
There had been speculations that Hamad had wanted to challenge Seif Sharrif Hamad for the secretary general position in CUF and the presidential candidacy in Zanzibar in the October General Elections.
