We are going to win, says CCM

CCM has once again expressed confidence that it is going to win in the forthcoming general election in October due to the majority support it enjoys from the grassroots level.

Ideology and Publicity Secretary Nape Nnauye hinted that the ruling party has many members from the grassroots, insisting that the number of people flocking opposition party rallies was not a determinant factor in its election chances come October.

Mr Nnauye made the remarks when briefing reporters on the party’s Central Committee (CC) meeting, which convened in Dar es Salaam.

He insisted that victory in the forthcoming election was certain, as the party has a well- established and cemented network involving people from all walks of life.

The outspoken party publicist affirmed that it was only a person with a little knowledge in politics who would think that opposition was going to win, insisting that even Dr Wilbroad Slaa of Chadema had in 2010 attracted a sizeable attendance to his public rallies but could yet not sail through.

“Having many people at the rallies doesn’t cow us; it is just a matter of mathematics. Chadema is moving from one place to another while CCM has a huge network.

When they leave, our leaders at the grassroots set things clear,” he explained. He noted that all opposition party leaders and members came from CCM; they had been defeated in every election ‘’and even this time they are going to be overpowered.’’

Mr Nnauye said that all other CCM members who are thinking about defecting to the opposition are free to do but should not coerce others to join them.

“In elections, not all candidates are conceding defeat because there are some people who participate just to win and not otherwise.

When results are not in their favour, they only think about crossing over,” he charged. He also spoke on those who were expressing their dissatisfaction on the streets, saying the party has set a mechanism through which all disgruntled members could channel their claims.

“We had already made it clear that we can’t be driven by a few individuals who put their personal interests first. Those who can’t agree with the party’s procedures are free to leave at their own will,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, the CCM-CC has announced names of candidates who are going to vie for parliamentary seats in constituencies which were ordered to repeat preferential polls due to a number of flaws that marred the August 1 primaries.

Candidates cleared by the party with their constituencies in the brackets are Jerry Silaa (Ukonga), Edward Mwalongo (Njombe South), Venance Mwamoto (Kilolo), Raphael Chegeni (Busega), Edwin Ngonyani (Namtumbo), Mohamed Mchengerwa (Rufiji), Norman Sigara (Makete), Martin Msuha (Mbinga Rural) and Joel Makanyanga (Chilonwa).
