Presidential candidate for Chadema and the Coalition of People’s Constitution (UKAWA), Edward Lowassa has said if he wins during the General Election he will look for rice markets for rice produced in Manyara in the northern Tanzania.
Lowassa said yesterday when addressing a campaign rally at Magugu along the Arusha-Babati highway.
Magugu is popular for the production of rice.
It is estimated that more than 3,000 small scale peasants grow rice in Magugu area, which is close to Lake Manyara, but the reliable market remained a challenge in the area.
Lowassa said once elected he’ll put up modern rice processing and packaging plant in the area so that the rice produced in the area gets local and international markets.
“No taxes will be imposed to small-scale rice growers in the area,” the Chadema candidate said.
He also promised to put a referral hospital in each district that would have good doctors, and best services.
He said that he would provide free education from kindergarten to the University as well as reducing luxurious vehicles in government departments.
Lowassa further said that he wanted committed leaders who would bring changes in the country in order to overcome poverty.
For his part, former prime minister Frederick Sumaye used the campaign to educate voters on how they would vote for the Ukawa candidate, Members of Parliament, and ward councilors.
“In the ballot papers, there’s no party called Ukawa but there are the parties under Ukawa such as NLD, NCCR, Chadema and CUF. Ukawa is not a party.”
Sumaye also told the voters to choose leaders they wanted, he therefore called on them to carefully examine the ballot papers before voting.
He added the country’s education has deteriorated, there’s no employment and that the government has not fulfilled the promises it made in the manifesto.
