ZEC urged to borrow leaf from NEC.

Zanzibar presidential aspirant through the Civic United Front (CUF), Seif Sharif Hamad
The Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) has been urged to issue a statement to the public that it will immediately announce and display the election results of the President, House of Representatives and representatives at the polling centres.

Zanzibar presidential aspirant through the Civic United Front (CUF), Seif Sharif Hamad made the call here over the weekend following ZEC’s silence on assuring the public on the move as their counterpart Mainland’s National Electoral Commission (NEC) announced that all the votes will be counted, announced and displayed at the polling centres to shun worries from the public over frauds.

Seif said such step will leave the citizenry with no doubts saying it will also make them believe and create that confidence over the electoral body ahead of October 25, General Election.

The Isles’ presidential aspirant who is also CUF General Secretary was addressing CUF supporters at Kiembesamaki constituency during the party’s election campaign in Zanzibar.

“ZEC official should assure the public that the election results will be announced and displayed at the voting centres after voting,” he called.

The CUF leader was puzzled to see the announcing of election results takes up to three days despite Zanzibar been a small country which has a least number of voters.

He said the move puts the public on high tension due to fear of fraud done by ZEC.

The contender added: “There is no need for the results to be delayed for three days, they should be counted at once, announced and displayed on the spot to allow the voters know them.”He however, said this year’s general election is a milestone to Zanzibar citizen towards their country’s future.

He explained that CCM has clearly disclosed unwilling to defend and protect the dignity and honor of Zanzibar under its policy of two governments, which have been making Zanzibar to fail planning for itself so as to promote economic growth and raise the standard living of its citizens.

“If you want Zanzibar to continue been a region vote for CCM but if you want it to have the full autonomy vote for CUF, We are not hiding anything, we need we a union mutual respect between Tanganyika and Zanzibar,” said Seif who is also First Vice President of Zanzibar.

Earlier, Kiembesamaki Constituency CUF chairman, Hemed Said expressed his dismay on the situation whereby some of party members who have yet to collect their voters’ IDs despite the fact that the exercise has been completed.

He urged CUF members and supporters to make sure they collect them to allow them be able to vote in a move to put CUF in power.
