Zanzibar Presidential candidate on Civil United Front (CUF) ticket, Maalim Seif Sharif Hamad has dismissed prevalence of a leader with strong guts enough to defend the interests of Zanzibar in the current system of the union.

He said the present government under Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has proved failure in defending the Isles’ interests because it had all its affairs decided in the interests of the party  under the Union umbrella, with Zanzibar having neither courage to resist nor daring attempt to question.

Maalim Seif, who is also First Vice President of Zanzibar cried foul of the CCM government at the launch of the CUF agenda in its election manifesto of turning Zanzibar into Singapore of Africa.

He said his party has accomplished strategic plan, ensuring  Zanzibaris that they would witness the changes within the shortest span of his presidency once elected to the post in the general elections scheduled for next week.

The plan includes making Zanzibar, one of Africa’s business hubs serving as commercial centre for landlocked states like Malawi, Zambia, Congo, Rwanda and Burundi through establishment of a free port and modern airports.

In addition to the improvement of infrastructure, he said his government will seal all loopholes deterring efficient collection of revenues.

He said with proper planning in place, Zanzibar will collect  more than Sh100bn every month as opposed to the current Sh30bn.

He said the Isles people will be able to efficiently exploit the opportunities, given the blessing of good business environment, the people who are endowed with business skills and potential investors who are ready to pour their resources into the economy of the new government.

Taking Maalim’s relay stick, CUF Deputy Secretary Ismail Jussa said the party’s plan also included construction of modern towns and commercial centres across the archipelago.
