Massive Isles turnout overwhelms Magufuli!

CHAMA Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Union presidential candidate, Dr John Pombe Magufuli, has expressed contentment with the reception accorded him in both Pemba and Unguja, saying it was a sign of victory in October 25 general election.

“Thank you for the historical reception. This is an indication of victory. I promise not to let you down,” Dr Magufuli told a cheering crowd of thousands of CCM supporters and residents at different rallies held in Pemba and Unguja.

At a rally held in Gombani ya Kale ground in Pemba on Thursday followed by another yesterday in Unguja at Mnazi Mmoja Grounds, Dr Magufuli said he was happy to learn that he will work with President Ali Mohamed Shein, once both are elected and that people should expect good results from their leadership once in office. “I am prepared to serve you to your expectations and better.

My priority include strengthening the union for the benefit of all Tanzanians regardless of their place of domicile, race, creed and political affiliation,” Dr Magufuli promised as he received at least 80 new members after defecting from Civic United Front (CUF).Dr Magufuli also said the huge turnout may include members and supporters from other political parties including the umbrella UKAWA, which is an indication of support for his presidential bid.

He said that he will work tirelessly with Dr Shein to implement the CCM 2015 election manifesto, which contains the best development programmes for the people of Zanzibar and Tanzania mainland.

“Zanzibar has many opportunities including tourism, fishing and entrepreneurship for youth. I will make sure we overcome most of the challenges that our two people face. Have faith in us and we will reward you by meeting your expectations and more,” Dr Maguful said.

Dr Magufuli praised Dr Shein for the splendid work in improving infrastructure, communication and social services in the Isles and that he will make sure the rule of law prevails including fighting corruption.

“Our Cabinet will be good, alongside building a strong defence and security capable of protecting our territory and controlling illegal fishing. We also need to maintain peace andstability under CCM regime,” Dr Magufuli said.

Both Dr Magufuli and Dr Shein vowed to spare no effort in maintaining peace, as the latter warned people who are planning to disrupt the voting exercise on polling day that they will deal with them according to the law.

Introducing Dr Magufuli as the Union presidential candidate, Dr Shein drummed support for the election for all candidates from CCM so that they can team up to bring changes required by Zanzibaris and Tanzanians in the mainland.

CCM bigwigs who turned up at the CCM rally include retired President Ali Hassan Mwinyi, Zanzibar Second Vice-President, Ambassador Seif Ali Iddi, Mr Abdalla Bulembo, Union Vice- President, Dr Mohamed Gharib Bilali and Mr Vuai Ali Vuai.

Mr Mwinyi and Mr Bulembo said it would be a grave mistake for Tanzanians in both Zanzibar and the mainland not to vote for the party’s candidates as they are diligent leaders determined to move Tanzania ahead.

“Of all things, every citizen must maintain peace and stability,” Mr Mwinyi said. Mr Vuai said that the party made the best choice of candidates led by Dr Maguful and Dr Shein for Zanzibar, as he appealed to the ‘wananchi’ to vote for them.
