Shein to enhance fisheries industry.

Zanzibar CCM presidential candidate Dr Ali Mohamed Shein has pledged to transform fishing industry in isles to make the business more profitable.
Speaking during a campaign rally held over the weekend at Nyundo grounds in Mgogoni constituency in North Pemba Region Dr Shein said that his government is determined to improve the industry by providing fishermen with modern fishing vessels.
“The government is currently holding talks with Sri Lanka based company to construct modern fishing boats,” Dr Shein said.
He said that the fishermen will be empowered through the provision of modern fishing gears and capital so that they conduct fishing activities in modern system.
He however noted that the government will also build a fish processing factory in Unguja to enable fishermen not only to have reliable market but also increase their income.
Dr Shein added that after building the factory in Unguja the government will see the possibilities of building another factory in Pemba.
On agriculture Dr Shein said that if elected his government will improve the sector through the use of modern farming tools such as tractors.
He said the government has already started taking actions to ensure that farming in isles is modernised. 
Dr Shein said that Zanzibar Minister of Agriculture with other government officials left the country yesterday (October 4) to India to meet with an Indian based company which will supply 100 tractors to Zanzibar.
He however said that if elected for the second term his government will continue to provide 75 percent subsidy on farm inputs especially to paddy growers in Pemba.
He noted that the 75 percent subsidy covers fertilizers, seeds and pesticides while the remaining 25 percent will be covered by farmers themselves.
“This system has been successful in Unguja because it has increased yields thus we want to implement it in Pemba,” he insisted.
On health he said his government has worked to ensure that residents of Kojani have access to health services.
He said Kojani health centre is providing good services and the government has also constructed houses for medical doctors.
Dr Shein said that his government will continue to ensure that people have access to quality health services adding that in two years of his leadership he will declare free health services for all people.
On water, Dr Shein said that the government has strengthened the service and it will make sure that before 2017 all areas in Kojani have access to clean and safe water.
He said that water distribution in North Pemba is 76.8 percent but it will make sure that the remaining percentage is attained in the next five years.
Dr Shein however said that he has been the first Zanzibar President to lead isles under the Government of the National Unity.
He said that his leadership abided by the country’s constitution and laws government the GNU without discriminating any person in the system.
Dr Shein said that he worked together with the first and second vice presidents in all decision making on issues related to the welfare of Zanzibar.
For his part Zanzibar former Chief Minister Shamsi Vuai Nahodha called upon Pemba residents to vote for Dr Shein because he has succeeded in implementing the party’s manifesto.
He said that his government has managed to connect Pemba with electricity from Tanga thus enable people to conduct income generating activities and improve their livelihood.
Vuai also said that the government has increased the cloves prices from 5000/- per kilogramme in the past six years to 14,000/- to date.
