It happened 12 years ago. She was in her 20s. He was in his 70s. Quincy Jones took Ivanka Trump out for dinner.
That's just one of the wild details to surface in an epic Vulture interview with the music legend. Jones is best known as a music producer, though he's filled numerous roles over the years: actor, musician, composer, business executive, humanitarian.
He helped a young Michael Jackson achieve stardom, having produced the pop star's early albums Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad. He's collected multiple Grammys over the years and has received seven Academy Award nominations, including two in a single year for separate movies (In Cold Blood and Banning, in 1968).
He's famous AF, folks.
So when he was asked about the Trump era and how we got here during Vulture's sprawling interview, filled with name-drops and anecdotes galore, Jones blamed it on "uneducated rednecks" and that "crazy motherfucker" Trump before dropping the unexpected revelation about the president's daughter.
"I used to date Ivanka, you know."
"Date" might be misstating things a bit, given what Jones had to say next. But a dinner definitely happened, at least in his telling.
So that happened.
