According to reports in Hindustan Times, Charan Kaur tried to intervene in the fight that broke out between her son Sukhdev Singh and six others after he asked the DJ to play a song of his choice.
Sukhdev Singh told police in his complaint that a scuffle broke out between him and six others - Lakhwinder Singh aka Lakha, Arwinder Singh, Sukha Singh, Mann Singh, Palwinder Singh and Jagga Singh of Valtoha village. "They were drunk during the party.
When I requested the DJ to play a song, they intervened and threatened him to not play my request. This led to a minor quarrel," said Sukhdev.
He added that when his mother came to know about the argument, she tried to intervene.
"Lakhwinder took a mace and hit her on head with it, following which she fainted. We rushed her to Patti civil hospital where doctors declared her brought dead," Sukhdev said in his complaint.
Besides a murder case, assistant sub-inspector Sukhchain Singh said that the accused have been charged with trespassing, causing hurt, criminal intimidation, rioting, member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence of the Indian Penal Code. He added, "All accused are absconding, but raids are being conducted to nab them."
The deceased woman was the paternal aunt of groom Ranjit Singh who was scheduled to get married on Saturday.
