Woman shocked after granddaughter orders horse online!

  • The schoolgirl came across an 'emotional' online plea seeking a home for the horse.
A 13-year-old girl in Staffordshire, England, responded to an online ad and had a pony delivered at her grandmother's house. The grandmother was shocked to see an extremely malnourished horse covered in mites in the back garden of her house in Stoke-on-Trent.

According to reports in the Mirror, the schoolgirl came across an 'emotional' online plea seeking a home for the horse which would otherwise be put to sleep.

Post the incident, Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) is trying to trace those responsible for dumping the horse, the Stoke Sentinel reported.

RSPCA inspector Charlotte Melvin said, "A 13-year-old girl responded to a plea on an online free ads site where a lady said she didn't want the pony anymore and that he would be put to sleep if no one had him."

Melvin added that the girl gave her nan's address and soon a man went and dumped the pony there without any advice or information about the animal. "We don't know where this poor pony came from but he clearly was not treated well before being abandoned," Melvin added.

The pony has been named Melvin Andrews and is now in the care of animal charity World Horse Welfare. Field officer Rachel Andrews said, "We're seeing sick or young ponies being abandoned when their owners no longer want them, and it would be a worry if online free ad sites are used in this way."

She added, "We're glad that Melvin the pony has settled in well at our Penny Farm Rescue and Rehoming Centre and has already shown himself to be lovely a little pony. We hope we can find him a good home."
