Teen girls post WhatsApp selfie before jumping into well!

  • The police are trying to ascertain the cause behind the alleged suicide.
Two teenage girls in a village in India's Mumbai jumped into a well and drowned shortly after posting a selfie to WhatsApp.

The girls' smartphones, shoes, and anklets were found nearby which further suggested that the teenagers had committed suicide, stated a Daily Mail report.

Born eight days apart in a tribal hamlet in Aarey Milk Colony, Pravina Rawte and Smita Page had been inseparable since they were toddlers. The girls would often dress almost identically and even bought the same smartphones. The incident which occurred on Tuesday evening has left their families and friends baffled as no one knows why the girls took the extreme step. According to reports in Indian Express, the bodies were fished out from the deep well late Tuesday. "The fire brigade first put in a 20-foot-long bamboo pole but it still didn't touch the bodies," said Pravina's father, Ganpat Rawte, 40.

The police are trying to ascertain the cause behind the alleged suicide through the girls' cell phones and are also combing through CCTV footage for any clues.

However, it is revealed that the girls deleted their WhatsApp chats before taking the extreme step.

One of the deceased fathers revealed his daughter had recently asked for some dresses she had seen on television. "I promised to get them for her... The clothes will arrive in a few days but my daughter is not around to wear them," the grieving father said. "Even in their last moments, they were dressed in identical tops and black pants," he added.

It is reported that a local boy had seen the girls going towards the well but asked him not to tell anyone about it.

Police said that before jumping into the well the girls had made a call to a boy they knew and told him about their suicides. He, in turn, called one of the girls' brothers who rushed to the scene but they had already leaped to their deaths. Police are now linking love affair to the suicides after discovering one girl had recently broken up with her boyfriend, citing she was seeing another boy.

This is said to be the fourth suicide incident at the well in two years.
