Uganda to build US $1.4bn hydropower plant on the Nile!
A Chinese firm has applied for a license in Uganda to develop a US $1.4bn hydropower plant that could potentially expand the country’s generation capacity by 40%. Mr. Julius Wandera, spokesperson for State-run power regulator, Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) disclosed that the authority has already called for comments from the public on the proposed project.

The Ayago power plant will have a capacity of 840MW and, when successfully developed, would be Uganda’s largest power plant.

1. What is a coronavirus?
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that are found in many different species of animals, including camels, cattle, cats, and bats. Animal coronaviruses can infect people and spread between people. In recent years there has been an outbreak of an animal coronaviruses that have infected humans such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). Coronaviruses (CoV) cause illness ranging from the common cold, diarrhoea and more severe illnesses.

The curious ability of the African turquoise killifish to press pause on its development could have intriguing implications for human ageing, say researchers.
Certain creatures, including the killifish, can put themselves into suspended animation as an embryo – a trait known as diapause. The phenomenon is thought to have evolved in response to pressures such as seasonal changes in the environment – for example ponds drying up – or sudden challenges that pose a risk to the creatures. In other words, diapause allows the animal to put its development or birth on ice until conditions improve.

US, Taliban to sign pact on Feb 29!
The agreement could represent a chance for peace after 18 years of war and a US troop presence that dates back to 2001, as well as boosting US President Donald Trump’s hopes of pulling US forces out of Afghanistan.

Implemented by the Dodoma Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Authority (Duwasa), the project will benefit over 7,000 households in Makang’wa Village and neighbouring villages in Chamwino. Duwasa Managing Director David Pallangyo said the authority started implementing the project on September 19, 2019, saying the project had to be completed in two months but the timeframe had to be extended by 30 days due to arrival delays of solar panels and a water pump from abroad.
