Wade Mode allows Cybetrucks to enter and drive through bodies of water, according to the Tesla Cybertruck Owner's Manual.

The manual warns that it is the driver's responsibility to gauge the depth of any body of water before entering

A man was arrested in Texas on Monday, May 18, after police said he "intentionally" drove his Cybertruck into Grapevine Lake.

Patrol officers were dispatched to Katie's Woods Park Boat Ramp on May 18, where they saw the vehicle stuck in the water near the shoreline, the Grapevine Police Department said.

The Cybertruck became disabled and began to take on water, prompting the driver and passengers to abandon the vehicle.

The driver allegedly told police he "intentionally" drove into the lake to use the Cybertruck's “Wade Mode” feature.

The Tesla Cybertruck Owner's Manual, available online, states that "Wade Mode allows Cybertruck to enter and drive through bodies of water, such as rivers or creeks."

The manual, however, warns drivers that it is their "responsibility to gauge the depth of any body of water before entering."

"Always inspect underwater conditions (such as debris, etc.) before entering and use your best judgment. Take care to drive slowly and safely. If the water is too deep, return to more shallow water or dry land," Tesla notes in the manual.

Damage to the vehicle caused by driving in water is not covered by the warranty, according to the manual.

Footage from the scene at the Texas lake shared on Instagram shows the Cybertruck struggling to make its way through the water after its passengers escaped through a window.

The Cybertruck was removed from the water with help from the Grapevine Fire Department Water Rescue Team, police said.

The Instagram video also shows the car being hoisted out of the lake with a crane.

The driver was arrested on charges of operation of a vehicle in a closed section of a park/lake and numerous water safety equipment violations, according to the Grapevine Police Department.

The driver was identified as Jimmy Jack McDaniel, according to NBC5, KDFW, and CBS News Texas, citing police. McDaniel also had no valid boat registration, per the outlets.

McDaniel said he had driven his Cybertruck in water "several times before without incident," according to NBC5.

The Grapevine Police "want to remind drivers that although a vehicle may be physically capable of entering shallow freshwater areas, doing so can create legal and safety concerns under Texas law," the department said in a statement.
