WHAT ARE THE MWANGAZA AWARDS?
The Mwangaza Awards recognize registered nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations whose work has already produced credible, measurable and positive results in their communities.
For this inaugural pilot, the focus is exclusively on:
EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
The awards are not for proposed future projects. Organizations must demonstrate what they have already done and provide evidence of the results achieved.
HOW MUCH IS THE AWARD?
Two organizations will be selected:
Pwani Region - TZS 50,000,000
Pemba North - TZS 50,000,000
TOTAL: TZS 100 MILLION
The money is intended to enable the successful organizations to further strengthen their Early Childhood Education work.
WHO CAN APPLY?
An applicant must be a legally registered nonprofit organization or NGO in Tanzania and currently authorized to operate.
It must:
- currently provide Early Childhood Education services in Pwani Region or Pemba North;
- have a demonstrated track record of at least three years;
- have completed, or substantially implemented, at least one Early Childhood Education intervention with documented positive results;
- have an active governing board;
- maintain a bank account in the organization's legal name; and
- be prepared for document verification, reference checks, financial due diligence and, where appropriate, a site visit.
IMPORTANT: The organization itself does not have to be headquartered in Pwani or Pemba North. What matters is that the qualifying intervention is being, or has been, carried out in one of those regions.
Organizations serving both regions must submit a separate application for each region.

ZNK'S ADVICE
If your organization qualifies, do not wait until the last day.
Read the requirements carefully, assemble your supporting documents, and make sure that the impact you claim can be supported by evidence.
The Mwangaza Awards are not asking simply:
“What good work are you planning to do?”
They are asking something much more demanding:
“What have you already done - and can you prove that it made a difference?”
