THIS IS SCARY: Your car could be sending information to government!

  • Generally, it happens without car owners' knowledge.
When Shan Junhua bought his white Tesla Model X, he knew it was a fast, beautiful car. What he didn't know is that Tesla constantly sends information about the precise location of his car to the Chinese government.

Tesla is not alone. China has called upon all electric vehicle manufacturers in China to make the same kind of reports - potentially adding to the rich kit of surveillance tools available to the Chinese government as President Xi Jinping steps up the use of technology to track Chinese citizens.

"I didn't know this," said Shan. "Tesla could have it, but why do they transmit it to the government? Because this is about privacy."

US senators vote to end military support in Yemen!

  • Further debate and votes on the measure are expected next week.
The US Senate took a defiant stance against President Donald Trump's White House on Wednesday, advancing a measure that would end American military support in Yemen.

Senators voted 63-37 in favour of the proposal just hours after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defence Secretary Jim Mattis had implored them not to curtail US assistance to the Saudi military, arguing that pulling back would worsen the war.

Further debate and votes on the measure are expected next week. But extended debate could serve as a powerful symbolic step - and allow lawmakers to address alternative paths in US-Saudi relations.

India on Thursday put into orbit its own Hyper Spectral Imaging Satellite (HysIS) -- an earth observation satellite -- in text book style.

The Indian Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle Core Alone (PSLV CA) rocket variant lifted off with 31 satellites -- the HysIS and 30 foreign satellites.

The notable aspect of the rocket mission is the placing of the satellites in two different orbits -- one at a higher altitude and the others in a lower altitude.

While the HysIS has been placed in its intended orbit, the remaining 30 foreign satellites will be later ejected at a lower orbit.

The Democrats have voted overwhelmingly to nominate Representative Nancy Pelosi as the next House Speaker, underlining her strength within the caucus as she strides toward a tougher public contest in January 2019.

The tally in the secret-ballot vote on Wednesday was 203-32, with three lawmakers leaving the ballot blank, The Hill magazine reported.

The 32 votes against Pelosi, the current House Minority leader, would be enough to prevent her from winning the Speaker's gavel in a January 3, 2019 floor vote which requires support from a majority of the full House.

Britain risks suffering an even bigger hit to its economy than during the global financial crisis 10 years ago if it leaves the European Union in a worst-case Brexit scenario in four months' time, the Bank of England said on Wednesday.

Hours after the government issued its own stark warning about a no-deal Brexit, the BoE said the economy could shrink by as much as 8 per cent in about a year.

The two reports could add to pressure on lawmakers to drop their opposition to the Brexit agreement that Prime Minister Theresa May struck with other EU leaders on Sunday, which is far from certain to be approved in parliament on Dec. 11.
