Police in Njombe Region are holding a doctor working with Lifuma Dispensary in Ludewa District, Michael Nkoma (57) for allegedly causing death in a failed abortion to Grace Mwakila (23), a student at Mtema Secondary School in the district.
The Police Commander for Njombe Region (RPC), Fulgency Ngonyani confirmed that the devilish incident occurred yesterday at around 9am at the doctor’s residence.
According to eyewitnesses, the doctor who was allegedly to have impregnated the student secretly tried to abort the deceased girl so that her parents could not discover that she was pregnant, but unfortunately the girl passed away.
RPC Ngonyani told The Guardian that the father of the student who died in the cause of abortion, Longinus Mwakila (52) a resident of Kikondo in Ludewa District, also died tragically after hearing the news that her daughter had died in the cause of aborting her pregnancy at the doctor’s home.
“Longinus Mwakila the father of the student died shortly after discovering that her daughter (Grace Mwakila) lost her life through abortion at the doctor’s residence,” RPC Ngonyani noted.
However, the doctor is still in the Njombe police custody awaiting to be arraigned in court to answer charges of abortion and causing death to the student.
