Two ministers suffer defeat in Zanzibar’s CCM preliminaries

IT was a stunning disappointment for some ministers as Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) results for last Saturday preliminaries were released.

Ms Saada Mkuya Salum who emerged winner in her new constituency of Welezo, was one of the leaders pleased with the results.

Ms Mkuya who is currently the Minister for Finance managed to beat six others aspirants including men who were competing for the same seat. The final approval awaits the CCM National Executive Committee (NEC).

Others who have won in the primaries, a good start in defending their seats in the union Parliament are Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi (Kwahani) and Professor Makame Mnyaa Mbarawa (Mkoani constituency in Pemba).

The results of the primaries have also been good for Dr Abdaulla Juma Abdulla (Malindi- MP), Deputy Minister for East African Cooperation and Mr Shamsi Vuai Nahodha (Kijitoupele- MP).The elections have also been a good start for Zanzibar’s Second Vice-President, Amb. Seif Ali Iddi who won the election for Mahonda seat in the House of Representatives (HR), should he be endorsed and win the October general elections.

CCM bigwigs including ministers who have suffered defeat with their constituencies in brackets are Dr Mahadhi Juma Maalim-Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (Paje) who lost to Mr Jaffar Sanya, and Mr Pereira Ame Silima, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs (Chumbuni) who was defeated by Mr Issa Pondeza.

Others with disappointments include Mr Mohamed Seif Khatib (Uzini-MP) who lost to Mr Salum Mwinyi Rehani and Ms Waride Bakar Jabu who lost to Mr Ibrahim Raza, a young brother of a renowned businessman and vocal politician, Mr Mohamed Raza who has also won House of Representatives (HR) primaries for Uzini constituency.

Mr Abasi Ali Mwinyi son of the retired union President Mzee Mwinyi won in the primaries for Fuoni Constituency, while Mr Hamad Masauni won in Kikwajuni is his efforts to retain the seat.

Mr Nassor Salim Ali won for House of Representatives seat in the constituency. Winners in other constituencies are Mr Machano Othman Said (Mfenesini- HR), Mr Ali Hassan Omar (Jangombe - MP), Mr Abdulla Maulid Diwani (Jangombe - HR) and Mr Mohammed Ahmada Salum (Malindi - HR).

Mr Mihayo Suleiman ‘N’hunga’ (Mwera - HR), Mr Makame Kassim Makame (Mwera - MP), Mr Masoud Abdul -Rahman Masoud Bububu- HR), Mr Jaku Hashim Ayoub (Paje -HR), Mtumwa Peya (Bumbwini - HR) and Mr Mr Issa Haji Ussi (Chwaka - HR).

Mr Baguwanji Mensuriya Baguwanji (Chwaka - MP), Mr Simai Mohamed Simai (Tungu - HR), Mr Khalfan Salum Suleiman (Tungu - MP), Ms Amina Khamis (Fuoni - HR) and Mr Haji Ameir Haji (Makunduchi - MP) takes over from Ms Samia Suluhu Hassan -the running-mate for union president on CCM ticket.



Mr Haroun Ali Suleiman (Makunduchi - HR), Mr Haji Omar Kheri (Tumabtu - HR) and Dr Mwinyhaji Haji Makame (Dimani - HR) are other CCM ‘strong men’ in Zanzibar who are celebrating good start ahead of the scrutinising session of the ‘Special committee of the CCM National Executive Committee (NEC)’ next Friday before the names are later endorsed in Dodoma.
