MUSCAT — A major water pipe in the area of Al Khuwair 33 busted yesterday damaging part of the central highway and a disconnection of supply from Al Ghubra Desalination Plant to the areas of Muscat town, Muttrah, Al Amerat, Ruwi, Al Wadi al Kabir and Al Wattayah. Abdullah bin Mohammed al Nuaimi, Senior Operations Manager at the Public Authority for Electricity and water said yesterday that it would take about 20 hours to repair the 1,000 mm pipe which busted at 5.30 am.
It was the same line which has been transferred three years ago at the time of construction of the central road, said Al Nuaimi, adding that steps to address an expected shortage in water supply in the above-mentioned areas includes the activation of a 600 mm line and the transportation of water by tankers to help diminish the impact of the problem.
Al Nuaimi called on consumers to rationalise water use and communicate with the customer service centre for updates. Al Nuaimi pointed out that repair work will take long due to the fact that the pipe lies in an area where the body of the road is 6 metres deep.
