The Revolutionary government of Zanzibar has called upon residents to freely give their views on Union matters to the Constitution Review Commission (CRC) to avoid conflicts that may derail the national unity.
The Minister of State, Second Vice President’s Office, Mohammed Aboud Mohammed made the remarks when briefing journalists at his office in Vuga, Zanzibar on the union government’s successes and development plans.
Mohamed said Zanzibar residents did not have to challenge the government on the Union, but rather air their views to the CRC.
“The CRC is here to help us find a solution on various issues including Union matters”, he noted.
According to him, the Union government has recorded a lot of successes within the last 48 years, adding that GNU will protect the Union and the two government system.
He said so far they have agreed on a procedure that will allow 21 per cent of jobs on Mainland Tanzania to be offered to Zanzibaris.
He said Zanzibar economy is growing at 6.8 percent per year while the national income increased to 1,198bn/- last year from 587bn/- in 2007.
He said the government has been able to collect revenues amounting to 19bn/- per month this year compared to 15bn/- per month in 2010.
The tourism sector has been contributing 25 percent of the national income and 83 percent of foreign currency annually.
