The mediators, former Presidents Joachim Chissano of Mozambique and Festus Mogae of Botswana, held talks with President Jakaya Kikwete in Dar es Salaam on Monday.
Speaking yesterday in Dar es Salaam, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Bernard Membe, told reporters that the talks between the mediators and President Kikwete went well and that Tanzania is poised to present its evidence as to its legitimate part ownership of Lake Nyasa.
Similar talks were held in Malawi.
Membe was present at the meeting along with the Minister of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development Prof Anna Tibaijuka as well as the Minister of State - President’s Office (Special Duties) Prof Mark Mwandosya.
The Minister explained that both countries, Tanzania and Malawi, will submit their evidence and leave the work to the mediators who are expected to deliberate for up to one year.
SADC mediators Chissano and Mogae arrived in the country on Sunday on a fact finding mission over the Lake Nyasa dispute as they did in Malawi in July this year.
In another development, the United Nations Security Council Resolution has chosen Tanzania as headquarter of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunal and disbursed 8bn/- for the construction of the new building.
Minister Membe said the court will be built in Lakilaki area in Arusha Region. It will now be the new location where all ICTR evidence will be kept as well as all administration files from the Rwanda Genocide cases.
Also, responsibility to protect the witnesses who testified in the Rwanda case will be under the court and pending cases will also be heard at the court.
Speaking after signing the agreement, Head of Delegation and Representative of the Secretary-General Miguel de Serpa Soares, said the UN has confidence in Tanzania coming from a long history of working together and that is why they decided the court should be built in the country.
