Amerat Park will house heritage village; Consumer exhibition at Naseem Garden — By Kabeer Yousuf — MUSCAT — The one-month long annual Muscat Festival venues are getting all set to engross the visitors with a gamut of fun-filled activities while offering a kaleidoscopic view of the Omani tradition and culture, as only nine more days are left to go. More than two million visitors are expected to the two major venues of the Festival that will turn the colder nights into nights of entertainment and knowledge for the whole family. The festival venues, Naseem Garden and the Amerat Park, will be officially open to the public on January 23 evening and will welcome people from various walks of life till February 22.
To be primarily held at two venues, which are Amerat Public Park and Naseem Garden, a host of activities are expected to enthrall the visitors from across the globe in these 30 days and nights.
While Naseem Gardens will be great for families with amusement area, fun fairs, electronic games and children’s shows, the heritage village will be the highlight at Amerat Park. The Naseem park will also be hosting a consumer exhibition, amusement art, family village, theatre events, skills show, pyrotechnics, Omani concerts, folklore and traditional arts, and fireworks. The Amerat Park will house the heritage village, international festival of crafts and arts, theatres and dazzling shows, and other specialised events. The Oman TV and Radio will have direct live broadcast of the contributions of the Omani Associations along with the amusement activities present there at the venue.
Additionally, “Tour of Oman”, one of the acclaimed global cycling events will be held from February 18 to 23 will be held around the capital city. As many as 100 cyclists from various parts of the world will be vying for the top position in this contest. There will be six stages covering a total distance of more than 900 kilometres. The 2013 edition had proved to be a bigger hit than its previous editions, recording over 1.6 million visitors, with Amerat Park alone attracting around 900,000. “Amerat Park has been well received as a venue due to the open space and ample parking. The Omani Heritage and Cultural Village was the biggest draw last time. We expect next year’s festival to have more fun and entertainment activities for everyone,” a source at the Muscat Municipality said.
Since its inception in 1998, Muscat Festival has proved to be more than just a celebratory cultural and artistic event, or merely an entertaining forum in which civilisations come together, involving multilingual activities. Yet, it is also marked by another magical touch, with a past and a present sense spreading all over. It is a festival of all colours. Thanks to its gaiety and warmth of the time and place, various people of different nationalities, blending in continuity, as well as attraction, of the diversity of performances and events, are attracted. These events are also set to welcome international media folks of more than 180 media outlets across the world descending down to this land presenting the nation to the rest of the world.
