South African holidaymakers who dream of visiting Zanzibar, Tanzania’s famous spice island, can now take advantage of fastjet's three flights each week to the island from Johannesburg, travelling via Dar es Salaam.
The flights, offered in partnership with Tanzanian local carrier Coastal Aviation, cost as little as R2170, inclusive of all government and airport taxes, putting that dream vacation firmly and affordably within reach.
Zanzibar offers the perfect Indian Ocean experience to holidaymakers seeking an island paradise, with pristine beaches, cultural treasures, and resorts and hotels to meet the needs of every budget and lifestyle. The island is home to world-class water sporting facilities, including scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking, windsurfing and water-skiing, as well as the renowned World Heritage site, Stonetown.
fastjet flies from Johannesburg to Dar es Salaam every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, departing O.R Tambo International Airport at 23h20.
A Coastal Aviation representative will meet passengers on arrival at Dar es Salaam’s Julius Nyerere International Airport and transfer them to their short flight to Zanzibar, where they will arrive just in time for them to have breakfast on the beach!
Return flights operate on the same days, leaving Zanzibar at 17h15 for the 20 minute flight to Dar es Salaam and then connecting to the fastjet flight that lands back in Johannesburg at 22h30.
Flights between Johannesburg and Zanzibar can be booked via fastjet’s consumer-facing website at www.fastjet.com/za. The Zanzibar "hop" is simply added to the fastjet flight booking at the same time as selecting seating and baggage options.
"Until now, South Africans wanting to visit Zanzibar have had limited choice of airline, limited choice of dates and have been subject to inflated fares," says Richard Bodin, fastjet’s Chief Commercial Officer.
"fastjet will reduce the route's average fare and in doing so make Zanzibar more accessible than ever before to South African tourists who have always dreamed of a perfect island holiday."
Better still, South African passport holders do not need a visa to visit Tanzania and Zanzibar if they intend staying for 90 days or less, however, a current yellow fever vaccination certificate is required.
