Dubai — While expected to be launched in the latter part of 2015, Microsoft this early has fired an invitation: watch out for its flagship smartphone powered by Windows 10.
“We are bringing in lots of innovation with our devices… we want to empower every single individual to do more and achieve more,” Devasish Auddy, head of marketing for the Lower Gulf at Microsoft, told Khaleej Times at Gitex Shopper Spring.
At the event, Microsoft launched its Lumia 640 XL smartphone through its key retail partners in the UAE. While Microsoft does not have its own stand at this edition of Gitex Shopper, Auddy says that the company is working more on scaling up in the mid-tier consumer segment.
“We rather invest our energy and resources on that, that’s why we stayed away from the stand [for now],” he said.
However, it will be an entirely different game once Microsoft releases its first Windows 10 device. Visible as it already is, Auddy stressed that the company will be even more visible once the flagship makes its way to the market. Also, despite this not having dedicated space at the event, he says that he is confident that Microsoft’s devices will still do well even beyond the Gitex Shopper.
The Lumia 640 XL — running on Windows Phone 8.1 — is upgradeable to Windows 10. It has a 5.7-inch display, a 13MP main camera, a 3000mAh battery and the other features that has defined the Lumia line. The device retails at Dh799. This is definitely value for money, according to Auddy.
“It is a perfect combination of productivity, entertainment and services. We believe that this device is not only for 9-to-5, but also for 5-to-9,” he says. “The value exceeds the price of the device — so you’re getting it practically for free.”
