Grand reception for Magufuli in Zanzibar

DESCRIBED in Zanzibar as 'a man of action', Dr John Pombe Magufuli was on day accorded a grand reception as he landed in the Islands for the first time since he was endorsed by Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) as its presidential candidate for the October election.

"We always heard about him through the media as a committed Minister.

Although he was not well known by many Zanzibaris, we will be happy to have such a hardworking man as a union president," Ms Khadija Omar, CCM supporter said shortly after the arrival of Dr Magufuli in Zanzibar.

Accompanied by his running mate, Ms Samia Suluhu Hassan, Dr Magufuli was introduced by Zanzibar President, Dr Ali Mohamed Shein to enthusiastic fans and members of CCM who gathered at the party's main office at Kisiwandui. "He is a charismatic leader and hard working, I know Dr Magufuli.

Therefore, we team up with Ms Hassan, definitely people in both Zanzibar and mainland should expect good results from us," Dr Shein said. He added that the CCM union presidential candidate and running mate have a track record in performance and therefore, Tanzanians should have trust in them for better future.

He said that more about Dr Magufuli and Ms Hassan will be released during the campaign period.

Both Dr Magufuli and Ms Hassan thanked Zanzibaris particularly CCM members and supporters for good reception, promising not to let-them-down should they become leaders of Tanzania after the October elections.

"We are happy and ready to serve Tanzanians as per party manifesto, and government plans," Dr Magufuli said as the running mate said electorate should expect good leadership from them.

Dr Magufuli and Ms Hassan also used the opportunity to thank Dr Shein for hard work, describing him as a leader who loves his citizens and development for the islands. They promised to work with him closely for a good future.
