Zanzibar — POLICE in Zanzibar have warned would be trouble makers during Eid celebrations to desist from their evil ways, as scores of people have begun flocking business centres to make final preparations for the holiday.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Mr Mkadam Khamis Mkadam, in charge of Urban-West Region said officers will continue to provide security during Eid, ensuring that residents can celebrate their holiday without fear.
"We are prepared for the event. We ask people and drivers to follow police instructions.
We want to see all people celebrating Eid in a peaceful environment," Mr Mkadam said. He added that arrangements for car parking have been made to minimise unnecessary congestion and inconvenience to pedestrians.
Mr Mkadam said that during the four-day Eid holiday, there will be a considerable number of police officers on duty, as he warned criminals that they risk arrest and prosecution.
But, he also asked members of the public to strengthen 'community policing' so that criminals find no place to hide.
Mr Mkadam also cautioned parents against dressing children in expensive items, including gold ornaments which easily attract thieves.
